Il a finalement gagné et présenté 509 représentations.
Il n’a pas eu cette chance à Londres. Bien que ce soit la quatrième comédie musicale d'Oscar Hammerstein consécutive à se jouer au Drury Lane, il s’est avéré être le moins réussi, et a réussi à tenir l'affiche seulement quatre mois. Lors de l'annonce de la fermeture du show, Sir Alfred Butt a fait la déclaration suivante à la presse: «The New Moon a 4.000£ de recettes par semaine, mais cela ne permet pas son maintien. Les principales dépenses sont les suivantes: salaires des artistes: 1.587£; honoraires des auteurs et des compositeurs: 543£; orchestre: 279£; personnel de scène: 231£; éclairage et chauffage: 183£; publicité: 330£; personnel du théâtre: 199£; entretien des costumes: 131£. L’élément important du loyer et des autres charges n’est pas inclus. Il y a aussi les dépenses de production à prendre en compte. La politique des grands spectacles musicaux – en particulier des États-Unis, où les auteurs et les compositeurs accaparent plus d’un huitième des recettes totales – est très dangereuse».
